Techniques for consecutive interpretation and sight translation;
interpreter ethics. U.S./Latino/Hispanic cultural
characteristics and beliefs. Terminology for community
situations. Guided practice sessions with handouts. Some
role-playing by participants. Covers the basics in the following
fields: health care, social services, some education, elder care
and welfare programs, dental health, mental health,
developmental disabilities and substance abuse.
Required textbook:
Manual for Community Interpreters – English/Spanish - $40.00
The books will be brought to
class for each registered participant, so you won’t have to pay
the shipping and handling and sales tax charges, which you would
if you were to buy it on line ahead of time.
